The objective of the Obese Mirror is to allow people to get intimately close with an image of themselves that is fatter than life. I intend to draw awareness to the issue of obesity in society, in order to draw attention to the existing myths that persist, such as: “obese people don’t try hard,” or “obese people are OK with how they look.” This mirror intervenes at the level of the general public, not necessarily at the obese population, because I believe that our entire society’s fat perception must fundamentally change.
The Obese Mirror was installed at a women’s locker room for a few days. The women interviewed in the video were asked to list the first three things they thought of when they heard the word, “obesity.”
